Head just north of the Bronx and you’ll soon find yourself in the city of New Rochelle, New York. It’s there that you’ll find a home with plenty of history associated with a legendary baseball player who spent his career with the New York Yankees. Lou Gehrig bought a house there in 1927 — an excellent year for the team as a whole — and his history remains interwoven with that of New Rochelle.

Now, a piece of that history is up for sale. The home Gehrig bought all those years ago has hit the market, and for $1,459,000, it can be yours.

As reported by 6sqft, the home — first built in 1895 — is back on the market. Ali Credendino and her husband purchased the house in 2019 and have spent the last few years renovating it. “We completely restored all of the interior woodwork including the moldings, doors, and parquet floors, as well as the exterior custom cedar lap siding, which there are black and white photos of Lou Gehrig himself installing,” Credendino told 6sqft.

The listing for the property offers more details, including the house’s location in the Residence Park neighborhood. It notes that the renovated elements include plumbing, windows and the electrical system. The porch and back patio both offer memorable outdoor spaces, and the house is located near both New Rochelle Harbor and the Long Island Sound.

The house is an impressive example of the Colonial style, but it’s also hard to deny the appeal of its ties to a baseball great. (As 6sqft’s article points out, the street on which it’s located is alternately known as “Lou Gehrig Way.”) It’s a classic, in multiple senses of the word.
