Months after missing a field goal that would have won the Bears a playoff game, placekicker Cody Parkey is getting booted off Chicago’s roster.

Head coach Matt Nagy confirmed Parkey, who missed a 43-yard field goal with 10 seconds left in the NFC wild-card round that allowed the Eagles to escape with a 16-15 win, will be released by the team.

Releasing Parkey, who only finished the first year of the four-year deal he signed with the team, will result in over $5 million in dead money on Chicago’s cap if he’s cut before June 1.

However, since Nagy is already confirming Parkey’s days in Chicago are done, it appears the Bears are willing to eat that dead money.

“We’ve talked to Cody and Cody knows were going to go on in a different direction,” Nagy said fom the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “It was a healthy talk, he took it like a true professional. We wish him the best.”

In his lone year with the Bears, Parkey was 23-of-30 on field goals and 42-of-45 on extra points.

The 26-year-old earned a salary of $1.25 million last year and took home a $2.25 million signing bonus when he signed on the dotted line.

He also got some extra cash when Eagles fans began sending him cash via Venmo after the last-second miss in the playoffs.
