Four former NFL players are taking their game from the gridiron to the ice.
Led by five-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen, a crew of four former NFLers is attempting to qualify for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing in curling.
Along with Allen, the group includes former Rams quarterback Marc Bulger, ex-linebacker Keith Bulluck, and ex-offensive lineman Michael Roos.
Training under the name the “All-Pro Curling Team,” the group got together for the first time in March and have brought 2010 curling Olympian John Benton on board as a coach.
The team will face the gold-medal-winning Team Schuster at an upcoming curling event and plans to compete in more events in advance of the Olympic trials. If the schedule is similar to the one before the 2018 games in Pyeongchang, those trials should take place about two months before the Olympics.
“We know we set some pretty lofty goals. It’s like that old saying: If we shoot for the moon and we miss, we’ll still land among the stars,” Allen told the Pioneer Press. “You’ll see all four of us together on the ice way more next year. We have nothing to lose. It’s like we’re a Division I-AA team going up against freaking Alabama. Nobody expects us to do anything. Hopefully we leave some people pleasantly surprised.”
