The newest stop on the Tiger Woods redemption tour? Japan.
The 43-year-old golfer announced Wednesday he’ll be playing in the inaugural Zozo Championship just outside of Tokyo.
Scheduled for late October at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club, the Zozo will be the first ever official PGA Tour event in Japan. Woods last played in Japan at the 2006 Dunlop Phoenix, losing in a playoff to Padraig Harrington.
“I’m excited to play in the inaugural Zozo Championship in October, and return to Japan, one of my favorite countries,” Woods wrote on Twitter. “It’s going to be a fun fall.”
Boasting a field of 78 players and no 36-hole cut, the ZOZO Championship will have a $9.75 million purse.
Woods won his 15th major title at the Masters earlier this month and is expected to play at next week’s Wells Fargo Championship before getting his shot at a 16th major at the PGA Championship, which begins May 16th at Bethpage Black Course on Long Island.
The PGA Tour’s fall schedule begins in September and has 11 official events scheduled so far.
