Giancarlo Stanton is Off to a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Start

The Yankees' $25 million man has 20 strikeouts in 42 at-bats.

On his first day as a Yankee, Giancarlo Stanton crushed two home runs and looked every bit the All-Star player New York traded for this offseason.

Since then, it’s all pretty much been downhill for the $25 million man as Stanton has only hit one more homer and now has a .167 batting average through 10 games.

Even worse, Stanton has 20 strikeouts in 42 at-bats and already has a pair of five-strikeout games (known as platinum sombreros) to his credit this year.

Sunday was a low point, as Stanton had an 0-for-7 afternoon in which he stranded nine runners and struck out in the 12th inning to end an 8-7 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

Appropriately enough, Stanton was rewarded with spirited boos and some Bronx cheers.

“Just got to look at it as a bad week,” Stanton said afterward. “The season’s much longer than a week. A couple of good games and I could turn it around and help us win.”

The Yankees start a series with the Red Sox on Tuesday in Boston.
