Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is not happy Odell Beckham’s reign in New York has come to an end.
In a post entitled “Kill Me Now” on his blog, the 70-year-old author tore into the Giants for trading the star wide receiver to the Cleveland Browns for a pair of draft picks and a young defensive back.
Martin, a native of Bayonne, New Jersey, said he has been watching and rooting for the Giants since “the Greatest Game Ever Played” in 1958 and lamented a number of recent moves they’ve made including trading Snacks Harrison last year and letting Landon Collins leave this offseason for nothing.
Then, he got to the Beckham trade.
“And now they have traded OBJ,” Martin wrote. “Their best wideout, and one of the very best in the NFL. I’ve been. Beckham was not only the best receiver on today’s Giants, but he was the best receiver this storied NFL franchise has EVER had in their long history, and probably the best receiver they will ever have. They are certainly not going to replace him with the 17th overall pick in the forthcoming draft.”
And if the Giants package the picks to move up in the draft to take a quarterback, Martin is not in favor of the move.
“If they do, I feel sorry for that quarterback,” Martin wrote. “He’ll be playing for an awful team. I thought the last two seasons were rough for Giants fans. Next year is going to make them look like the good old days. Someone pinch me. I am having a Big Blue nightmare.”
Martin’s passion about the trade sounds legit, but it’s also somewhat confusing as he’s a known fan of Big Blue’s crosstown rivals, the New York Jets.
The eighth season of Game of Thrones premieres on April 14. HBO released the official trailer for the upcoming final season last week.
