After a tumultuous offseason that still hasn’t settled down, it’s anyone’s guess how the Patriots will fare in 2018.
An even bigger question? How things will be in New England two years from now in 2020.
To answer that question, Bleacher Report surveyed more than a dozen NFL coaches, execs, scouts, players, former Patriots and current staff members about the future in New England.
According to the respondents, it basically boils down to two things: Belichick and Brady.
At this time in 2020, Belichick will be 68 and Brady will be almost 43, but if they are still with the Patriots and performing at a high level, the consensus is the team will still be a legit contender.
“I hope Bill and Tom are gone by then,” one AFC head coach told BR. “The rest of us would like a chance too.”
Now it’s possible he will get his wish, especially if the Patriots get back to the Super Bowl and win, which would give the Brady-Belichick duo an unprecedented six SB wins together. That said, if neither retires or leaves the team, expect the Pats to be a thorn in the side of the league.
“They’re going in reverse, but when you have the best QB and best coach ever, people don’t see that, because Tom and Bill are good enough to make a Super Bowl every year by themselves,” a rival scout said.
