On Sunday at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Collin Morikawa earned his first major by capturing the 102nd PGA Championship with a 6-under 64 in the tournament’s final round.
Morikawa, who was a four-time All-American at the nearby University of California, Berkeley, and turned professional just last year, set up his win with an impressive drive to the 16th green at TPC Harding Park that set up an eagle putt.

After that hole, Morikawa was able to hold on for a two-shot victory over third-round leader Dustin Johnson and Paul Casey.
“He thoroughly deserves it,” Casey, who shot 4-under on the day, said of the winner. “Nothing you can do but tip your cap to that. When he popped up on tour not that long ago, those guys who were paying attention like myself knew he was something special, and he’s proved it. He’s already sort of proved it, but he’s really stamped his authority of how good he is [Sunday].”
At 23, Morikawa is the third-youngest winner of the PGA Championship since it became a stroke-play event in 1958 behind only Jack Nicklaus in 1963 and Rory McIlroy in 2012.
In his brief time on the PGA Tour, Morikawa has three victories overall and has taken home $6,898,977 in on-course earnings.
“It’s amazing,” Morikawa said after the win. “To close it out in San Francisco, which is pretty much my second home, where I spent the last four years, is pretty special.”
