The Chad Kelly era in Denver is over before it even began.

The Broncos have waived Kelly following a bizarre series of events that ended with the backup quarterback being arrested early yesterday morning for criminal trespassing.

Kelly’s very bad night and early morning began Monday evening at a Halloween party being thrown by now ex-teammate Von Miller.

During the party, Kelly became intoxicated and reportedly had physical altercations with a guest and hired security staffers.

The 24-year-old then left the party and ended up in a stranger’s residence on their couch “mumbling incoherently.” He was chased from the home by someone who struck him with a piece from a vacuum and later arrested nearby.

Charged with first-degree criminal trespassing yesterday, Kelly wore out his welcome in Denver after his uncle, Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, vouched for him and his character.

Based on what Broncos general manager John Elway said yesterday, perhaps the writing was on the wall for Kelly’s release.

“We are very very disappointed in Chad,” Elway said yesterday. “When the team has a get-together, that’s always a good thing. And the camaraderie that goes along with being a team … One person put a dent in it. We are going to look into this. The charges are very, very serious.”
