Although it had some scratching their heads, the decision by the Los Angeles Dodgers to start Hyun-Jin Ryu over Clayton Kershaw in Game 1 of the NL Division Series paid off big.
Ryu pitched seven dominant innings and struck out eight as the Dodgers rolled to a 6-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.
LA’s offense also launched three home runs during the game, which was important because they only had five hits overall. The Braves actually had more (six) but they were all singles.

In the National League’s other divisional series, the Milwaukee Brewers got off to an early lead against the Colorado Rockies courtesy of a two-run Christian Yelich homer.
That lead held up until the ninth inning when closer Jeremy Jeffress came in for the Brewers and promptly blew the team’s 2-0 lead.
The rally by the Rockies sent the game into extra innings, but the extra frames didn’t last long as the Brewers bounced back in the bottom of the 10th with a rally of their own that culminated with Mike Moustakas‘ walk-off single.
The hit gave them a 3-2 victory and a 1-0 series lead.
