In less than a week, Bartolo “Big Sexy” Colon will celebrate his 47th birthday.
As a present, Colon wants to play one more season in the majors and his preference is to return to MLB with the New York Mets.
Colon, who last pitched in the majors with the Texas Rangers in the fall of 2018, spent time with the Mets from 2014 to 2016 and he thoroughly enjoyed his time playing in Flushing.
“That Mets team was really something special,” the 46-year-old said on a video call with ESPN. “I’ve played with 10 teams, but with the Mets, the way all those players treated me, how that entire franchise treated me, from the front office to the kitchen staff, it was amazing. And Mets fans are the best. In the beginning, when they laughed at me every time my helmet fell off, at first I felt uncomfortable. But when I saw how much the fans enjoyed it, I asked for a bigger batting helmet so that it would fall more because it was so much fun for them. If it was up to me, I would retire with the Mets. I would like my career to end in New York.”

Colon pitched 21 seasons and won 247 games in MLB after breaking into the big leagues in 1997 with the Cleveland Indians.
He also spent time with the Expos, Angels, Red Sox, Yankees, White Sox, Athletics, Braves and Twins during his lengthy career.

A four-time All-Star, Colon won the Cy Young award in 2005 after going 21-8 and amassing a 3.49 ERA for the Angels.
