After Snubbing Colin Kaepernick, Seahawks Sign QB Who’s Never Played in NFL Game

Controversy-free quarterback Stephen Morris will back up Russell Wilson in Seattle.

At this point, we don’t know if the Seattle Seahawks canceled their scheduled workout for Colin Kaepernick because, like some have reported, he wouldn’t commit to not kneeling during the national anthem or, like others have reported, the team postponed the workout because they wanted to know “more about his stance on matters related to the national anthem, his collusion lawsuit against the NFL and his other stances against social injustice.”

What we do know is that, instead of working Kaepernick out and potentially signing him, the Seahawks signed journeyman Stephen Morris to serve as their backup quarterback.

An undrafted free agent out of Miami in 2014, Morris has never appeared in a regular-season NFL game. On the other hand, Kaepernick has started 58 regular-season games and thrown for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns with a quarterback rating of 88.9 during those contests.

Since they now have Morris under contract, the Seahawks no longer have a reason to bring in Kaepernick, regardless of their reason for not doing so in the first place. Despite that, the scrutiny surrounding the situation will likely continue because of Kap’s collusion lawsuit against the NFL.

At this point, it’s unclear if Morris plans to stand for the anthem, but we’d guess he will.
