SF Has a New Jacket Mecca, Because Winter Is Coming

The Arrivals brings East Coast outerwear to the Bay

San Francisco has changed over the last two decades.

A lot.

But if there’s one thing that hasn’t changed, it’s this: You better own a decent jacket — or six.

And you’ll find them at The Arrivals, a pop-up shop in the Mission with a residency through December 28th. It’s a veritable mecca of high-end outerwear, with gloves, knit hats and all manner of winter layer draped about its racks. But you’re going for the jackets, which they’ve got in every style, material, color and cut you can dream up.

The shop is the brainchild of Jeffrey Johnson, a former architect who traded designing buildings in Amsterdam for keeping folks warm and handsome in the States. Last year, he opened his first pop-up in NYC, where what was originally slated to be a four-week run turned into a five-month engagement.

His architectural background manifests itself in pieces that mix undeniable tech-savvy with the sartorial demands of urban spaces: think all-mountain performance meets my-name’s-on-the-list sophistication.

Below: Our three favorite jackets from the collection. Swing by the store (886 Valencia Street) to get a closer look.

And in the meantime, better make room in that coat closet.

AXEL Techno Stealth Bomber
Badass jackets need badass names, and this one looks just about exactly how it sounds. The lightweight satin and sharp lines pay homage to a long line of aviation threads, all presented in a fiery overcooked orange. We don’t mind that left-bicep pocket, either.

Max Redux Denim Jean Jacket
If you haven’t jumped on the denim layering train, here’s one hell of a ticket. Offered in an off-white and blue denim, this self-described “wardrobe hero” is 100% cotton denim and durability. Perfect for those days that can’t quite commit to the cold.

Aer Down Puffer Jacket
When reaching for a decent puffer, it never hurts to hear a brand invoke city life, ski slopes and space travel. This jacket seamlessly blends the three, with streetwear flair, a weatherproof double front zip and a hood fit for Buzz Aldrin.
