In fall, you reach for heavier threads. More substantial gear. So why wouldn’t you do the same when it comes to the weekend bag in which you carry it all?

Hence: Ghurka, and their brand new downtown shop, now open in the heart of SoHo.

Named for Britain’s famed fighting force and in the satchel biz for nigh 40 years, Ghurka stocks the carry-on lot. Below, our favorites for your assorted autumnal gallivants.

For the commute: The Examiner.

Handles for when you want to channel your old man, a shoulder strap for when you need both paws. Plus two handy exterior pockets for key-and-phone paraphernalia. Go navy twill: it’ll hide scuff marks and it’s lighter than its all-leather brethren for everyday carryin’.

For the weekend jaunt: The Cavalier I.

Rich chestnut leather head-to-foot = instant classic. Big enough to hold a long weekend’s gear but still able to slide into an overhead compartment or double as the world’s most baller gym bag.

For the long haul: The Kilburn.

Rollers are great but for their boxy silhouette – enter the Kilburn, with the shape of a stately leather-trimmed duffel and a collapsible handle for strolling JFK’s terminals with ease.

The shop also stocks a plethora of wallets, dopps and electronic gizmo cases. And while such a cornucopia of carryalls may be tempting, we implore you: heed the admonition on Ghurka’s vintage catcher’s gear.
