A couple weeks back, we told you that Chinatown karaoke den Winnie’s was finally shuttering after almost 30 years in biz. But when New York closes a door, by God, she opens a window. There’s a new crooning hall in town: the subterranean home of gonzo dinner theater Queen of the Night. You should be taking a date directly. Here’s your three-step plan for just that.
This is the sort of night a fella wants to get churched up for, so start with the sample sale of dapper Parisians Sandro, who are cutting sweet (and very limited) deals on their line of artfully streamlined menswear. Pro tip: if you spot one of their razor sharp three pieces or leather moto jackets in your size, grab that thing and hold onto it like a dinghy in The Perfect Storm.

A trip to Midtown’s the perfect excuse to do dinner at the recently opened NYC outpost of London hotspot Zuma. It’s big. And loud. But that’s exactly the sort of energy you’re looking for pre-karaoke, and dammit if their black cod and cocktail list aren’t thoroughly on point. Full menu here.
If you have not yet attended dinner-theater-meets-burlesque-meets-nouveau-cirque production Queen of the Night, skip Zuma and grab tickets. Otherwise, show up around 11, when they open doors to the public every Wednesday for “Get Lucky,” an after-party that invites audience members up onto the main stage to belt out ’80s, ’90s and contemporary pop hits with the help of a four-piece live jazz ensemble. Word of warning: the venue’s Theater District locale means there’s a good chance you’ll share the stage with Broadway actors (we did).
