You may not know that Anheuser-Busch InBev has owned Goose Island since 2011. Or that Anheuser-Bush also owns Elysian, Devils Backbone, Wicked Weed and a whole host of once beloved craft breweries.
Whether you like it or not, that's the reality. But thankfully, the “Take Craft Beer Back” campaign is trying to put a stop to that.
Keyword: trying.
An initiative started by the Brewers Association — a group that represents more than 4,000 independent and craft breweries — the tongue-in-cheek crowdfunding campaign is attempting to raise $213 billion to purchase Anheuser-Busch InBev. The point: Save the soul of craft beer.
“We’re going to buy Anheuser-Busch InBev and Take Craft Back! And to do it, we need to raise a mere $213,000,000,000,” according to the campaign. “Pledge your support. Because we need a lot of pledges. Seriously. Like, really a lot.”
While it's impossible that the project will actually meet its goal, as of publishing this story the crafty campaign has already raised more than $2.3 million from almost 7,500 backers.
To support craft beer, pledge here.
Or, better yet, “donate” to your local craft brewery instead.
