Life, 2018: Work, politics, work and probably more work.
The current state of affairs makes a man long for the open road.
Care to start planning your itinerary?
For our part, we assembled seven exceptional automotive adventures — from touring the Rocky Mountains in a fully-equipped campervan to ice driving in Finland — that’ll provide the escape you deserve.
Keep your eyes on the road and you’ll be out there in no time.
Ice Driving in Finland
Just 40 miles from the Arctic Circle, Lapland, Finland offers reindeer, snow villages, the Northern Lights on speed-dial and one of the world’s most epic ice driving courses. You’re going to be the guy who drove a Lamborghini Huracán on a regulation F1 circuit … over the surface of a frozen lake.
Off-Roading in Moab
To the desert! More specifically, “Hell’s Revenge” in Moab, Utah. Local outfitters like Outlaw Jeep Tours will put you behind the wheel of a 4x4 for off-roading baptism: a dusty descent through Southwest slickrock in a tight ridge surrounded by 1,000 foot drops. As for where to rest your head? Under Canvas Moab has you covered with flush glamping sites.
Auto Racing in Northamptonshire
You might be aware that McLaren maintains an online Build-A-Bear for cars. It’s one thing to daydream in the office. But how about actually getting behind the wheel? The British luxury sports car maker offers all manner of one-on-one driving sessions at Silverstone (the venue of the British Grand Prix) aimed at auto-junkies all the way up to aspiring amateur drivers.
Land Rover Touring Through North America
Land Rovers are too tough to stay so dang pretty. The car makers sanctioned driving experiences range the gamut, but you'll wanna sign up for the Heritage Program, where nostalgists can get behind an iconic Defender 90 for full day adventures on the California coast, Quebec, in Vermont’s Green Mountains … or the muddy meadows of George Vanderbilt’s North Carolina estate.
Motorcyle Riding Across the American West
Picture you on the seat of an all-black Harley-Davidson Sportster, cranking from Joshua Tree to Yosemite. Better yet, make a pit-stop in Vegas — the folks back home don’t need to know. It’s The Roadery’s Great Western Road-Trip, and it’s the American West the way it deserves to be explored.
Van Camping in the Rockies
Vanlife made easy. Native Campervans operates locations in Denver and Salt Lake City for you to pick-up your camper and head straight to those mountains, canyons and riverlands. Rent out the Biggie, it’s a Ram ProMaster with a stocked kitchen and high-ceiling bedroom. Take it easy on the 'gram though, alright?
Road Tripping Around Iceland
Renting a car is essential to the Iceland experience, and geothermal volcano-hopping got a bigtime boost with the Mink Camper, a 4x4 tow-along teardrop trailer. Each camper sleeps two, and includes a kitchen with a stove. Plus, hey — there's WiFi. Not to mention that glass roof ideal for a little aurora borealis just before bed, if you're there the right time of year.
