Because every man wants to explore Los Angeles, even if that means actually walking in it, we’re proud to present the first in a semi-monthly series of guides that reveals the must-see, -do and -eats in a single neighborhood. Up today: La Brea.

Your average L.A. tourist thinks that Beverly Hills is a good place to shop.

But the Bev is full of tourists, bods, Beamers and shops that have all the ambience of an Orange County strip mall.

Look instead to La Brea.

If it’s a leisurely day of shopping with your lady you seek, you can do no better than this blossoming avenue that splits Hancock Park from Beverly Grove.

Here, we made you a map: The 8 Things Every Man Must Do in La Brea.

Despite what you may have heard (or haven’t), La Brea is now the most design-forward part of town.

Lots of public museums, galleries and shops that carry things you won’t find just anywhere.

Yes, some stores are long in the tooth.

General Quarters is still hawking a smartly curated supply of ’60s California Heritage looks, and their hidden barbershop still sculpts a handsome do.

A+R still has interesting furniture and trinkets. Garrett Leight still crafts quality specs and sunnies. Kelly Cole’s stock of vintage leather and well-worn tees is still badass.

And yes, there’s a Sugarfish, and it’s just as consistently mouthwatering as all the others.

But we’d like to show you a smattering of what’s new and what you must see.

So walk with me.
