It’s been six years since the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, a film which set a new standard for action filmmaking and featured some of the most striking vehicular designs you’re likely to see on screen. More unsettlingly, it’s also begun to seem more and more like a documentary, with droughts affecting the landscape and water being more and more in demand. Might this be the ideal time to own your own utterly terrifying off-road vehicle?
If so, you’re in luck. According to a recent article at Jalopnik, 13 cars from Mad Max: Fury Road are being sold at auction. The sale is being conducted by Lloyds Classic Car Auctions, and someone there is clearly having fun getting the word out about the sale. “HIGH OCTANE OFFERS – EXPRESSIONS OF MADNESS INVITED,” states the auction house’s website.
Lloyds is accepting offers on the vehicles in question through September 26.
Among the vehicles being offered are those driven by Furiosa (Charlize Theron) and Nux (Nicholas Hoult) in the film, as well as The Doof Wagon — the perfect place to play your electric guitar which is also a flamethrower.
The auction’s page offers a fair amount of details on the making of these vehicles — including the fact that the Gigahorse, which featured prominently in the film, was made by turning two 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Villes into one monstrous creation. Even if you’re not looking to build a new convoy for the post-apocalyptic desert, there’s plenty to glean here for car enthusiasts and cinephiles alike.
