These Tiny Prefab Homes Float On Pontoons

Apparently, you’re not making the best use of your waterfront property. How about adding some living space ON the water?

That’s the idea behind the Koda Light Float, a tiny house resting on pontoons and attached to the shore. It’s the latest release from the Estonian design company Kodasema, makers of prefab tiny homes that don’t require a foundation and can be assembled in seven hours.

Here, your foundation is all that unused space on the water. These turnkey properties are handsome but minimalist — 277-square-foot insta-lofts with 11-foot ceilings and all the usual tiny amenities (kitchen, open-space living room, full bathroom) and a wooden terrace. A ladder on the outside gets you roof access, and your bed is up a small flight of interior stairs.

The company suggests turning the Koda Light — which is also available to install on land — into a “harbour cafe, artist’s studio … summer retreat or a fisherman’s dream.” Our take? It’s an ideal Airbnb rental.

Available in a few parts of Europe for now, Koda sales in the U.S. will begin at some point.
