Thoreau may have lived in a simple cabin on Walden Pond, but CC-studio was certainly thinking of the noted transcendentalist when the architecture and engineering firm constructed Thoreau’s Cabin, a 376-square-foot indoor-outdoor environs hidden deep in Noordepark, the nearly 6000-acre wooded park north of Amsterdam.
The space is a refuge for park rangers, and an upgrade on the bedraggled hut that had been in commission since 1966. The new model holds a washroom, a stove, a table for two and a small chimney that burns local firewood. All this encased in deep green aluminium casing meant to “complement the pastoral elegance of the park.”
Don’t be surprised if one of those rangers whips up a philosophical treatise.
