In addition to being very good at predicting NFL plays before they happen, mediocre-quarterback-turned-great-broadcaster Tony Romo is an excellent golfer.
With a handicap index better than zero, Romo — who has two swing coaches — is the recipient of a sponsor’s exemption and will play at this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson at Trinity Forest, his home club in Dallas.
When Romo joins the 156-player field at the Byron Nelson, it will be his third-ever PGA Tour event.
And, since it is an official Tour event, people can bet on it. And people are — on Romo.
According to Jeff Sherman, the VP of risk management and golf handicapper for SuperBook USA which operates the sportsbook at the Westgate in Las Vegas, at least six bets have been placed on the former Cowboy.
“Up to 6 tickets on Tony Romo at 10,000/1 to win this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament … including one for $100,” Sherman wrote on Twitter.
At 10,000/1, a bet on Romo will pay off quite handsomely if it hits. But, if his past two Tour appearances are any indication, it’s not likely it will.
In his two appearances, both of which came at the Corales Puntacana Golf & Resort Championship in the Dominican Republic, Romo shot 15 over par both times and missed the cut. He finished last in 2018 and second-to-last this year.
