Though he will never be rid of the public perception that he murdered his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman and got away with it, O.J. Simpson is officially a “completely free” man in the state of Nevada.

Simpson, who was sentenced to a nine to 33-year prison term on an armed robbery and kidnapping conviction for leading five men in a 2007 confrontation with two sports collectibles dealers in a hotel room at an off-strip Las Vegas casino, was released from custody in 2017.

Now, thanks to good behavior credits, the former NFL star and actor has been discharged from parole, according to Nevada State Police spokeswoman Kim Yoko Smith.

“Mr. Simpson is a completely free man now,” Malcolm LaVergne, Simpson’s lawyer in Las Vegas, told The Associated Press. The 74-year-old former football player has not commented publicly about his parole release nor has he mentioned it on his Twitter account.

Though Simpson served nine years in a Nevada prison, he never did time in California or anywhere else related to the deaths of his ex-wife and Goldman. He was found liable for the deaths in 1997 by a California civil court jury and was ordered to pay $33.5 million to the victims’ families.

“Life is fine,” Simpson told The Associated Press in 2019. “The subject of the moment is the subject I will never revisit again. My family and I have moved on to what we call the ‘no negative zone.’ We focus on the positives.”
