Like Duke’s Mayo, Cheez-Its and Outback Steakhouse, Jimmy Kimmel will have a college football bowl game named after him starting this year.

Seriously.

As Kimmel announced on his popular late-night talk show on ABC, the inaugural edition of the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl will be played on December 18 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. Like Jimmy Kimmel Live, the game will air on ABC.

“Ever since I was 52, which was last year, I’ve dreamed of having a college football bowl game named after me,” Kimmel said. “This is history-making. Never before has a bowl game been named after a human being — and Papa John’s doesn’t count. He’s barely human. This is not a joke. This is a real bowl game, named after me. So mark your calendars. It’s like an early Christmas gift for all of us.”

In the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl, the Mountain West’s top team will take on the PAC-12’s No. 5 squad, so the game will hardly be a matchup of the titans. In fact, the game may be somewhat of a joke, so its name will work out quite nicely.

“The LA Bowl was established to create another big annual event for SoFi Stadium, which was built by Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke as part of a large multi-use development on the former site of the Hollywood Park racetrack,” according to The Associated Press.

The multibillion-dollar home of the LA Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers SoFi Stadium opened last year and hosted a full NFL season without fans in the stands. When SoFi opens for business this season, it will be at full fan capacity for both teams.
