With $9 million on the line, the winner-take-all golf showdown between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will take place on Black Friday while most of the country is still digesting turkey and mashed potatoes.
If you are at all interested in watching this one-of-a-kind spectacle between two storied competitors, here’s everything you need to know:
Streaming on pay-per-view via Turner’s B/R Live, DIRECTV, AT&T, and other providers, The Match will tee off at 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Being played at the ultra-private Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, The Match will not be played in front of a crowd as the event has been closed to the public. However, there will be some sponsors and VIP guests watching the action from the course.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to charities selected by both Woods and Mickelson, but they will have an opportunity to make up for it and rake in even more cash via planned side bets during the 18-hole round.
Tim Mickelson will caddie for his brother and Joe LaCava will do the job for Woods. Woods will go with TaylorMade clubs, while Mickelson will go with his usual Callaways.
With a record of 18-15-4 in his career when playing in the same group as Mickelson, Woods has never finished runner-up to his rival at a major, but Mickelson did finish as a runner-up to Tiger at the 2002 U.S. Open.
That’s probably a big reason why, as of this writing, Woods enters Friday’s match-play event as a -200 favorite to win while Mickelson is posted at +170 to emerge victoriously.
