Watch DeAndre Hopkins Make NFL’s Catch of the Year as Cardinals Stun Bills
Hopkins caught a 43-yard bomb from Kyler Murray to give Arizona a 32-30 victory over Buffalo
Trailing by four points with just seconds left on the clock and needing a touchdown to take the lead, Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray completed a stunning 43-yard Hail Mary to DeAndre Hopkins even though the three-time All-Pro was surrounded by three Buffalo Bills defenders in the end zone.
“Two plus two equals four,” Hopkins, who had seven catches for 127 yards in the comeback win, said. “Go downfield. Throw it up. It was on three people. They were in position. It was just a better catch by I.”
The pass, which gave Arizona a 32-30 win over the Bills, had a very, very low chance of being completed, according to Next Gen Stats.
“Just getting the pass off was incredible,” Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said following the win. “If you watch the replay, I mean, he’s running and dodging and ducking, and I didn’t think he’d get it off. And then to put that type of loft on it and give him a chance, from my vantage point, I couldn’t see much, but I saw the crowd go crazy and just kept asking our guys, ‘Did he catch it?’ And they were going nuts up top (in the press box).”
Hopkins’s heroic grab came moments after it appeared Buffalo wide receiver Stefon Diggs had won the game for the Bills with a TD of his own courtesy of a pass from QB Josh Allen. But, thanks to Hopkins, Diggs’s 21-yard touchdown reception, which gave Buffalo a 30-26 lead, wasn’t enough.
“You’re not gonna win every game, but to lose this one the way we did — it hurts,” Allen, who completed 32-of-49 passes for 284 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, said.
Thanks to the loss, Buffalo falls to 7-3 while the Cardinals improve to 6-3.
