If someone can think of a bizarre record, there’s a high probability that people will try to break it. And so, American Olympic hopeful runner Johnny Gregorek has written his name in the record books after he broke the “fastest blue jeans mile” record. Yes, that is exactly what it sounds like.

On Saturday, Gregorek ran a mile in 4 minutes and 6.25 seconds, which, according to NBC Sports, is believed to be the fastest mile ever run by someone wearing blue jeans by over five seconds. Gregorek posted the attempt and subsequent record-breaking mile on his Instagram:

Gregorek ran the mile wearing 100 percent cotton Levi’s, while raising over $33,000 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. He said he ran the mile in memory of his younger brother Patrick, who passed away suddenly in March of 2019.

Gregorek is hoping to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics — whenever that might happen; the Games have been suspended for 2020 and it’s still not a certainty that they will take place next summer, as currently planned — and beyond his blue jeans record, he ranked as the number one indoor mile runner in the United States last year, running a 3 minute, 50 second mile.
