Threesomes May Be on the Rise Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic

Are threesomes the new quarantine trend?

Many people have used this pandemic to pick up new hobbies and interests, whether that be baking bread, perfecting the five-minute mile or, apparently, threesomes.

A new report from dating app 3Fun, which is for what it sounds like, suggests interest in group sex has seen a significant spike amid the pandemic. The app reports a steady increase in conversations among its 721,927 active users throughout the months of April, May and June.

The top city for pandemic threesomes is New York, where the app saw 22,874 people chatting over the last few months. Other particularly active cities include LA, Houston, Chicago and Vegas.

But just because more people have been talking about threesomes during the pandemic doesn’t necessarily mean those threesomes are actually happening. In fact, I can only imagine the New York City Health Department hopes they’re not, considering its most recent pandemic-era sex advice specifically suggests limiting the guest list for intimate encounters: “If two is company then three (or more) is definitely a crowd.”

Fortunately, according to 3Fun spokesperson Jennifer White, the app’s increasingly avid users are probably all respectfully holding off on engaging in their group sex fantasies until the pandemic has passed.

“Social distancing makes offline meetings tough because all the bars, hotels and restaurants are closed. That means most open-minded people are trying to meet new friends online during the pandemic,” White said in a statement. “Once the pandemic is over, they will finally meet offline for the first time and live out their fantasies together.” Sure.
