It’s been just over a year since Prince Andrew’s now-infamous BBC Newsnight interview, in which the British royal attempted to distance himself from his good old pal, pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. During that appearance, the prince denied staying a night at Epstein’s Manhattan mansion in April of 2001, when he is alleged to have had sex with a then-17-year-old Virginia Robert Giuffre.
A recent Daily Mail report, however, claims to have found evidence to suggest that Prince Andrew did in fact spend the night at Epstein’s during his visit, despite the Prince’s assertion that while he may have dropped in on Epstein for a spell, he certainly didn’t spend the night or engage in any “activity.”
The prince has claimed that he was staying with the consul general down the street from Epstein at the time, and would not have spent the night at the pedophile’s Fifth Avenue mansion. “I may have visited,” the prince told Emily Maitlis during last year’s BBC interview, “but definitely didn’t, definitely, definitely no, no, no activity.”
According to the Daily Mail, however, an itinerary and “well placed sources” suggest the prince did stay at Epstein’s during the visit. The investigation points to a gap in Prince Andrew’s schedule reserved for “private time,” which coincides with the time period in which he is alleged to have assaulted Virginia Roberts Giuffre.
In response to the report, a spokesperson for Prince Andrew told the Mail, “It would not be appropriate to comment on any of these matters.” A spokesperson handed down a similar response to the Guardian, saying, “We are not issuing any comment. Nothing at all.”
