There are plenty of whisky enthusiasts around the world who have, over the course of years or decades, put together amazing collections featuring some of the most envy-inducing bottles imaginable. But what happens when a whisky enthusiast’s whisky enthusiast puts themselves into the world of collecting? Well, you might get something like the collection that’s about to go on sale as part of an auction via Whisky Auctioneer.

An article at The Drinks Business offers some details about the collection in question. The person behind it has requested anonymity, and thus is known only as Pat. And thus, we have “Pat’s Whisk(e)y Collection,” assembled over the course of 15 years. All told, the collection spans 9,000 bottles and has a value of over $5 million.

The collection is being sold over the course of several distinct auctions; the first began yesterday and is set to run through October 5. The Drinks Business offers details of the first lot, slated to include “whiskies from the likes of Karuizawa, Hanyu, Mackmyra, Kavalan Daftmill and bottlings of Bowmore, Port Ellen, Caperdonich and Highland Park (and more) from Duncan Taylor.”

The complete collection will be auctioned off through June 2021. Whisky Auctioneer founder Iain McClune spoke about the appeal of the collection coming from how comprehensive it is. “It goes against the grain of whisky only being for experienced connoisseurs, and is a collection for everyone, accessible to all, and most importantly, something to be enjoyed,” McClune said.

Whisky enthusiasts can see for themselves, as of this week.
