The quest to overturn Steven Avery’s murder conviction and the related charges of his nephew Brendan Dassey turned Making a Murderer into the most popular Netflix documentary series of its time. With the release of a teaser, Making a Murderer season 2 is on its way.
While the series’ first season focused largely on the trials of Avery and Dassey in 2007, the second season will cover the ongoing efforts to clear Avery and Dassey’s records over the course of 10 episodes. In the short trailer, a voiceover warns, “Once somebody’s convicted, they have to move mountains to get out of prison.”
Dean Strang and Jerome Buting, who earned internet celebrity in 2015, no longer represent Avery. Kathleen Zellner, whose specialty is fighting wrongful convictions, is now Avery’s attorney.
Making a Murderer will return to Netflix October 19.
