Don’t ask Jack Dorsey to make lunch plans. He won’t be joining you.
In a recent appearance on Ben Greenfield’s “Fitness: Diet, Fat Loss, and Performance” podcast, the Twitter CEO opened up about his extreme diet, which consists of just one meal per day.
According to Dorsey, he eats one meal every night between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. His go-to is a classic protein-veggie combo: either chicken, steak or fish with a side of salad, spinach, asparagus or Brussels sprouts. For dessert, which is a rare indulgence, Dorsey reportedly treats himself to mixed berries, dark chocolate, or maybe a glass of red wine.
The tech CEO attributed his day-to-day success under a demanding work schedule to his restrictive eating habits.
“During the day, I feel so much more focused,” Dorsey said of his diet. “You have this very focused point of mind in terms of this drive.”
On weekends, the tech head steps it up a notch. Dorsey said he fasts completely from Friday through Sunday, subsisting entirely on water.
Diets like Dorsey’s, often known as intermittent fasting, have become popular in recent years, although experts disagree on the purported health benefits of the trend.
Meanwhile, Dorsey also pushes his body to other extremes. While on the podcast, he also explained his hydrotherapy routine, which involves sitting in a 220-degree sauna for 15 minutes before jumping into a 37-degree ice bath for three minutes.
“Nothing has given me more mental confidence than being able to go straight from room temperature into the cold,” Dorsey said. “It just unlocks this thing in my mind and I feel like if I can will myself to do that thing that seems so small but hurts so much, I can do nearly anything.”
