Rose McGowan, one of the biggest voices of the #MeToo movement, said Monday that her partner had exchanged text messages with with Asia Argento in which Argento said she had slept with actor Jimmy Bennett, an act that Argento has previously denied. McGowan went on to say that her partner, model Rain Dove, told her that in the text messages, Argento claims she had been getting unsolicited nude photos of Bennett since he was 12 years old, but she had not asked him to stop sending the photos or alerted the authorities. Rain Dove’s spokesperson confirmed in an email to The New York Times that everything McGowan said was factual.

McGowan made these claims in a lengthy statement, in which she also took pains to explain why she had grown close to Argento as well as suggest that she has distanced herself from the director and actress since the allegations that Argento sexually assaulted Bennett surfaced.
Argento was one of the first women to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault. McGowan also went on to become on of Weinstein’s most vocal accusers. In her statement, McGowan acknowledged Argento’s bravery in coming forward with her allegations against Weinstein but urged Argento to “be the person you wish Harvey could have been.”
