What happens when a Moldovan-American design guru and a Korean robotics company decide to troubleshoot environmental woes?
This, apparently.
The brainchild of Korea Future Technology and Vitaly Bulgarov — responsible for designing essential elements of the recent Terminator, Robocop and Transformers films — what you’re looking at is a 13-foot tall robot called Method-1.
But this mecha suit is much more than a movie prop: it was created to help with clean-up duty at the Fukushima disaster site in Japan. The piloted giant mimics the motor movements of the “driver” contained in the glass cockpit (yes, like Avatar), and it’s capable of walking on flat surfaces in forward and reverse. Method-1 currently has to be connected to a power source to function, but Bulgarov has some solutions for mobile autonomy in the works.
