You could say that this turntable not only plays Nirvana, but also reaches it as well. Mag-Lev Audio has produced the world’s first “levitating” record player, combining top-notch audio with technology capable of spinning LPs in midair.
The turntable comes with a pre-fitted tonearm and cartridge, so really all you have to do is throw a record on the levitating platter and watch it do its magic. (The turntable has retractable “platter feet” that allows it to rest in “off” mode, so your LPs won’t get tired levitating all the time.)
Just like the old-fashioned ones, the tonearm lifts at the end of each side, so as not to scratch your mint-condition copy of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band’s Trout Mask Replica. You can also switch between 33 1/3 and 45 rpm with the twirl of a single button. It also has an accessory included so you can play all those 7-inches you bought when you hung out at CBGBs and had a safety pin through your left nostril.
The levitating turntable comes in black, white, and imitation wood; and will retail for about $1,400. However, the company currently has a fully funded Kickstarter campaign still up and running, so if you back them, you could receive a black turntable for $880 or a wood one for $940. And according to the company, once they hit the $400K mark, they’ll be offering a discounted white version as well. Fund their campaign here.
