Philanthropist David Rockefeller died last March, so his heirs put his Upper East Side townhouse up for sale. Then they put Ringing Point, his property on Mount Desert Island in Maine, with an asking price of $19 million. It recently sold for that amount and all the proceeds will go to charity. The estate covers 14.5 acres and was purchased by David’s father, John D. Rockefeller in the 1960s. There are seven bedrooms and five full bathrooms, and the house and gardens surrounding it were designed by David’s wife, Peggy, in 1972. There is also a granite swimming pool behind the main house. The estate is named for the #4 bell buoy that sits offshore and rings quietly. The living room is gorgeous, with floor-to-ceiling windows and two fireplaces. It also has an insane view across a lawn to Great Harbor. The grounds include a ton of native flora and an orchard.
