A Go-Kart Has No Business Doing 0-60 in 1.5 Seconds

Uh, can we get a fact check on this?

The last time I raced my fella in go-karts, there was something wrong with mine. It was broken. Even when I pressed the pedal all the way to the floor, it would just put-put along. He lapped me …  twice. And I haven’t been able to live it down yet — which is maybe fair because I talked a big stinking game of sharp-tongued sh*t beforehand. (Some may say I had it comin’).

But I’m thinking this unreal kit could help restore my superior driving rep. From Daymak, a Canadian manufacturer and developer of light, electric vehicles (LEV), comes the world’s fastest go-kart. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in a completely wild 1.5 seconds courtesy of a 48v/10KW brushless DC motor and 12 Electric Ducted Fan motors fitted with 12 5000mAH batteries. Translation: a lot of power on a featherweight champ.

The other side of the coin: it’s damn near the world’s most expensive go-kart as well, with a sticker price of $60,000. If you can stomach the spike from doing 60 in 1.5 to a whopping 4 seconds, you can save 50 of those Gs and opt for the standard make. Compared with the Coney Island karts I’ll be up against for my rematch, I think the latter, while not as thrilling, should suffice.
