Maserati’s Electric GranTurismo Steps Out Before Production

What’s more impeccably designed than a Maserati GranTurismo? The answer to that may well be “the electric version of a Maserati GranTurismo.” The storied automaker has been parceling out details about the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore bit by tantalizing bit. Last year, images of a prototype going through the paces on a track reached the wider world. And now, we’ve seen one out in the world.

As Autoblog notes, the electric GranTurismo stepped out for a drive through Rome in conjunction with the Rome e-Prix, a Formula E race that took place this weekend. The prototype conveyed Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares to take in the race — which certainly seems to be one perk of being an auto industry CEO.

The GranTurismo Folgore is the first fully electric car set for release by Maserati, but it’s not the last. The marque’s ambitious plans include an electric version of each model by 2025 and for the line to go fully electric by 2030. As for when we can expect the GranTurismo Folgore to be out and about in the world, its 2023 release date is drawing closer by the day.

As Autoblog points out, the GranTurismo Folgore won’t lack for power on the engine side, either — it’s set to deliver 1,200 horsepower. As for the genesis of Folgore — well, that’s the Italian word for “lightning.” That bodes well for when this line hits the road.
