Today I Learned That McLaren Has a ‘Special Ops’ Department
You wouldn't want the same one as the guy down the street
What do you give the man who has everything? A custom McLaren MSO R Coupé built by the marque’s Special Operations division, of course.
What do you give the lucky bastard who already has one? Apparently an MSO R Spider, the drop-top version of the one he already has.
Courtesy of the aforementioned Special Operations unit, a pair of McLarens designed to one man’s personal specifications were just delivered.
Personalized inside and out and decked out in a shade called Liquid Silver, the aerodynamic duo were given identical mechanical systems and twin-turbocharged, hand-polished McLaren V8 engines that deliver nearly 700 ponies. Add in a number of other matching features — five-spoke wheels, Alcantara-trimmed interior, twin-element rear wing, carbon fiber center stripe — and the only difference you’re left with is the Coupé is finished in satin while the Spider is finished in gloss.
Oh, also the whole roof/no roof thing.
Because sometimes it rains — even on the man with two special-order McLarens.
