Pack the caviar. We're going to the woods.

A commercial midsize pickup truck might be the last thing you expect from Mercedes-Benz, let alone a camper conversion kit, but here we are in 2018 with the new Mercedez-Benz X-Class prepped and ready for the market.

In a reveal that shows what Mercedes-Benz has planned for its new luxury X-Class pickup truck, the German automaker introduced two outdoor-ready concepts which can house a number of mobile camping options, from campers to built-in kitchens.

To bring these to consumers, Mercedes partnered with luxury camper maker Tischer and modular camping kitchen maker VanEssa. Tischer’s demountable cabin features a complete living area including a kitchen and a three-gas burner stove, while the VanEssa add-on features a pullout module that stows a fully-equipped kitchen.

The cab-style is similar to Mercedes SUVs with an 8.4 inch “Comand” touch-screen infotainment system similar to what you’d find in a C Class. While the truck has a four-cylinder V6 engine with the option to run on gas or diesel, with all-wheel drive and the option to go five speed.

All of which is to say that Mercedes certainly has the outdoors in mind. Time will only tell if its loyal base does, too.
