Belgrade’s old city may be getting a touch of modern art.

Chinese firm Metroscapes has designed a multi-level art gallery for a competing proposal in the Serbian city.

While undeniably modern, the 19,7000-square-foot structure is tucked away discreetly in the historic neighborhood. Built into the hillsides overlooking the Sava and Danube Rivers, the proposed gallery would be prominently featured in Belgrade’s most iconic panoramic views, an area called Kosancicev Venac.

The building features curved, segmented terraces that are nestled in the hill’s slope.

Visitors to the museum would be guided to the entrance by a light canopy structure that opens up into a stunning view of New Belgrade. The building is planned to be open throughout the day, so Metroscapes designed multiple balconies for visitors to relax and enjoy the view outside, in addition to the art inside.
