Hindustan Ambassador Car Sofas by Smithers of Stamford

When the Hindustan Ambassador went into production in India in 1958, it had a dated look that was at least a decade behind the times. When Hindustan ended production in 2014, the company’s last model had that same dated look.

But what’s passé for automobiles actually works quite well for furniture.

Smithers of Stamford is an English design house that imports antique Ambassadors from India and upcycles them into sofas.

With center seats outfitted in distressed brown leather and working sets of either headlights or taillights, the car sofas have enough room for two and, at just 130 pounds, are easy to move. Smithers of Stamford has priced the sofas to do the same thing — they’re only charging $1,800.
