Ancona, Italy-based concept studio NERD has came up with an eco-friendly design for a stand-up paddleboard with a cardboard core and components made of recycled materials.
A greener alternative to the foam boards found in the market — not to mention 50% lighter — the core of the 3CSup was digitally designed with an algorithm set to optimize structural performance and internal ventilation. On the board’s exterior, NERD installed a sturdy cork edge and a self-venting system to keep the core of the board waterproof.
With two different models – one for easy cruising and the other for more advanced surfing — the 3CSups can be customized with distinct patterns that reflect the surface of the water in different ways and hopefully blind any opportunistic sharks.
Priced at around $250, the boards are up on Kickstarter and should be ready by Christmas.
