By the time Labor Day comes around — after a summer of three-day weekends, emptying the wallet on boat gas and large-format frozen cocktails — laying low in the neighborhood seems apropos.
Not this year.
Airline flight prices for the holiday weekend are the cheapest they’ve been in four years, so it’s time to book a last-hurrah summer vacation.
The statistics come via Patrick Surry, Chief Data Scientists at our go-to flight-tracking app, Hopper. As he points out, these price fluctuations are nothing to sneeze at — down around 14% from each of the last four years.
The average domestic round-trip price right now? A mere $255 (it was $291 last year).
Some of the best destinations on the lower end of the spectrum include Fort Lauderdale for $178, Myrtle Beach for $189 and, for those itching to take their new fall hiking boots for a spin, Denver for $225.
Common-sense airline-buying rules apply: book now for the best prices, with a rapid spike expected around August 17th; the most expensive days are Friday, August 31 and Monday, September 3 (good time to pad your trip with those unused vacation days).
And don’t leave home without your airline-seat survival kit.
