The series that was supposed to mark the next phase of Jon Stewart’s career has been scrapped by HBO, according to CNN.
In a joint statement, the comedian and network said that “technical issues” were extensive enough to keep Stewart’s short-form digital animated project from lifting off the ground.
“We all thought the project had great potential but there were technical issues in terms of production and distribution that proved too difficult given the quick turnaround and topical nature of the material,” Stewart and HBO said in a joint statement.
They added that there are “some future projects” planned together, which “you will be hearing about in the near future.”
First announced in 2015, CNN notes that a not-insignificant amount of buzz was generated around the project and Stewart’s return to television, following his retirement from host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.
