Canadians know from volatile weather.
It would behoove you, then, to trust a Canadian when you’re shopping for gear — boots, jackets, those flannel-lined jeans (love those things) — that can stand up to the elements.
One such Canadian is Nobis, an outerwear label with an affinity for duck down that’s been outfitting raffish outdoorsman for the last decade. The most recent addition to their collection is the Ng 9, a transitional number that pretty much nails the formula for a great bomber.
At this point, the bomber isn’t so much having a moment (it was the most Googled menswear item of 2016) as it is simply arrived, past tense, a bona fide casual staple right up there with your white sneakers and a pair of dark selvedge jeans. And if you’re not sure where to begin, the Ng 9 is a minimal, handsome iteration you can pair with pretty much anything. It’s also — vitally — built to withstand shitty weather. You can find a lot of cut-rate bombers out there for under $100, but they’re not gonna last, and they’re definitely not gonna keep you warm on an unpredictable April day.
This one’s got a white duck down fill, sealed seams and water-repellent coating to keep you dry and toasty, but it’s also breathable enough that you won’t burn op when the mercury is in the 60s and 70s. It’s available in black, dark brown and a foggy blue, and it won’t come cheap, at $645. But thanks to superior construction, it should last you a decade, and you can’t put a price on that.
