The Houston Rockets set an NBA record on Memorial Day evening – and not a good one.
During their 101-92 loss in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals on Monday night, the Rockets misfired on 27 straight attempts from three-point range, the most ever missed consecutively in an NBA playoff game.
Houston’s futility from deep – they finished shooting 7-44 from the three-point line – contributed to the Rockets blowing a 15-point lead in the second half and costing themselves a Finals berth.
To their credit, the Warriors helped that process along as they were able to shake off ice-cold shooting in the first half and heat up while outscoring Houston by 17 points in the third quarter.
Stephen Curry finished with 27 points, Kevin Durant had 34 and Klay Thompson added 19 for Golden State in the win, while James Harden had 32 points for the Rockets.
“It’s amazing how long the NBA game is,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “Forty-eight minutes, it lasts a long time and there’s so many opportunities to get yourself going as a team. And with our team, there’s just so much firepower that at some point, we’re going to get going.”
The Warriors will host LeBron James and the Cavaliers to start the NBA Finals on Thursday.
