Tim Tebow, who had a chance of making the majors last year before getting injured, has an even better shot of playing in The Show this season.
The former Heisman winner will start this baseball season playing for Triple-A Syracuse, Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has confirmed.
“Timmy is not a guy you want to put restraints on,” Van Wagenen said. “If he sees a block, he’s going to work that much harder to go overcome whatever somebody places on him. I believe in him.”
Tebow hit .273 with six homers and 36 RBIs in 84 games this year for Double-A Binghamton before he was lost for the season thanks to a broken hamate bone in his right hand,
Van Wagenen also didn’t rule out the possibility that the former NFL quarterback could be on the MLB roster for Opening Day, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
The former NFL quarterback played in seven games for the Mets during in spring training this year, hitting .056 (1-for-18).
