Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints plays quarterback.
Unfortunately for him, New Orleans has a quarterback named Drew Brees on their roster and does not need Hill under center very much, if at all.
But, despite the presence of Brees, New Orleans coach Sean Payton has found a way to incorporate Hill into the offense by giving him a multi-position role that allows the dual-threat to take part in situational plays and special teams for the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
That’s a role many thought Tim Tebow, who never played for the Saints but did speak with Payton about the possibility, could fill in the NFL if he ever gave up his dream of playing exclusively at quarterback.
But Tebow didn’t want to do anything but play quarterback and didn’t want to serve as a blocker and ballcarrier on offense and as a multi-faceted player on special teams the way Hill has done this season.
Tebow has taken note of Hill’s success this season and has liked what he has seen. According to the former Heisman winner, Hill was on his radar when he was playing college ball for BYU.
“If he was on a better team – I’m not trying to knock his college team – if he was on a better team, I think he would have had a chance to be special,” Tebow said. “You put him on the field with good teams and see what he could do, I think he could have done really well. I liked watching him a lot.”
This year for the Saints, Hill has rushed 37 times for 196 yards and two touchdowns. On special teams, he has several tackles and a blocked punt.
