From the very first week of the 2018 NFL season to the last, Kansas City Chiefs QB Pat Mahomes was the odds-on favorite to be named MVP. On Sunday, those odds paid off as he won the Associated Press‘ award in dominating fashion, getting 41 first-place votes to second-place finisher New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees’ nine.
Mahomes, a first-year starter for the Chiefs, kicked off the season with a bang, throwing 10 TDs in the first two weeks. He didn’t let up from there, throwing 50 TDs and amassing 5,097 yards passing in 2018. (He also rushed for 282 yards and two TDs.) Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 12–4 regular season record and the team’s first appearance in the AFC Championship in 25 years.
“I’m so humbled,” Mahomes said. “This is just the beginning. We’ve got a long ways to go.”
